Freiburg is a sister city to twelve other cities worldwide: Besançon (France), Granada (Spain), Guildford (United Kingdom), Innsbruck (Austria), Isfahan (Iran), Lviv (Ukraine), Madison (USA), Matsuyama (Japan), Padua (Italy), Suwon (South Korea), Tel Aviv-Yafo (Israel), and Wiwilí (Nicaragua).
These partnerships have been successful and are reflected in the design of joint projects, especially with regard to environmental and climate protection, solar programs, and energy efficiency. For example, the largest photovoltaic system in Italy was built in Padua, and an apartment building in Lviv is currently being renovated to make it more energy efficient.
