Climate change

Climate change is not some phenomenon in the distant future—it is already a tangible reality today. As part of the Upper Rhine rift valley, the City of Freiburg is one of the warmest regions in Germany. In particular, the increasingly severe heat spells in midsummer have begun to afflict the people in the city. Changing precipitation distribution, drought stress, and invasive species are also putting a strain on Freiburg’s green and natural spaces, requiring new management strategies.
